01. What are the travel DONT'S that we should watch out for? π·
These are really important questions because I understand how hard it is to travel to a new country and not know about of the customs so~ let me try to help you!
1. NEVER wear shoes inside the house π
I'm sure most of you know this already but NEVER wear shoes in someone's house. It is considered super rude & is just honestly gross from the perspective of people who've lived here all their life. To each their own of course but when entering a Korean person's house or houses in Korea specifically -- shoes off!
2. Throw away food trash with general waste π₯
I've heard so many people being shocked at the way that we separate trash in Korea but there are different trash bags for each type of trash here! We separate the food, general waste, and the recycling in to different colored bags and throw them out separately. I found that this isn't super common everywhere so I thought this would be a good thing to know!
3. Calling someone by their name/speaking informally right away π²
Well guys I'm SURE most of you know this by now but I just want to reiterate because it can be hard sometimes to remember butttt when you're meeting someone for the first time, you wouldn't call them by their first name right away you would usually add μ¨ or λ at the end but if that is hard to remember -- just avoid saying their name in the beginning lol. As for the informal part, just make sure not to use informal language unless explicitly told to! I know it can be hard but you got this!!!
4. Tipping π€
Just so y'all know -- no tipping in Korea! There are some taxi apps that accept tips in Korea but this is only if you had immpecable service or something! Other than that NO TIPPING!
5. Don't sit in pregnancy seats!
While some other priority seats in other countries are free reign if there is no one else sitting there -- sitting on a pregnancy seat in Korea is a nono! While some people break these norms, it is considered rude and honestly makes it uncomfortable for someone who might need that seat and ask you to get up. So to be safe, just don't sit on the seats marked for pregnant people~ I've put a picture below! |
