1. Can you explain Korean money to us? πΈ
Of course!!! So this is a topic I've done before but I'm sure most of you weren't here with us back then so I will review it with you guys here~ I even made a little diagram for the coins so make sure to download it to keep it for next time!
We have these bills:
- 50,000 won (37$)
- 10,000 won (7.4$)
- 5,000 won (3.7$)
- 1,000 won (0.75$)
And these coins:
- 500won
- 100won
- 50won
- 10won
Different from the US dollar bills, our money is all differently colored! So~ It is really easy to tell them all apart. π As for the coins, they're all different sizes with the biggest being the most valued so it is pretty self explanitory. As always though, the numbers are written on the bills and the coins! π so don't worry about differenciating between them.
If you want some more details about what is on our bills, make sure to check out the newsletter archives and read my full newsletter about the mulaaahh π€
Below is a picture of the bills and below that, is the coin diagram I made for you guys :) Enjoy!!! |

2. In the U.S. it would be rude to say βLong time, no seeβ to someone you are not really good friends with. So itβs really strange to see people in K-dramas saying μ€λλ§μ΄μμ to people who are a higher status than they are. π’
Woah...first of all, I had NO idea that It was rude to say long time no see to people you're not friends with. I guess this is a cultural thing I've never learned because I lived in Korea all my life but thanks for that info! π€£ You probably saved future Sherly!
That being said, the culturally implications of different phrases usually don't transfer over! So just because something is considered rude in the US doesn't mean it is considered rude here π The phrase μ€λλ§μ΄μμ genuinly means "long time no see" and doesn't have any rude implications at all! π Actually it is pretty polite to say!
That being said, any phraseβif said in a snarky way and by someone who you don't like CAN be turned into something rude so I can imagine that if a bully said this to their victim, it would be rude. BUT this has nothing to do with the phrase itself and more with the person and the context! π€§
Bottom line, not rude at all. Quite the contrary actually!

3. Is everyone good at singing in Korea? π€―
This question made me giggle because I've been asked this before! So I think like any country, everyone has their own talents individually. I truly think it is also impacted by your environment so let me explain! β€οΈ
Firstly, most kids who grew up in Korea learned atleast one to two instruments. Kids go to Piano hagwons or learn an orchestra or band instrument as well. (Piano is definitely most common). I personally learned how to play 3 different instruments growing up. This is common and I'm not sure why but we had a lot of activities like this such as music, art, and sports which were common for everyone to do. That being said, because a lot of us have an early foundation in Music, I think everyone is generally a little more musically inclined than in a country without this cultural norm. π
I mean take a look at all the Noraebangs (Karaoke) in Korea! Most people (usually in their 20s) frequent them and even have a couple of songs they're confident in! Even my friends who claim they can't sing can usually sing atleast 1-2 songs pretty well! So is everyone good at singing? I'm not sure if I can answer this BUT music is highly embedded in Korean culture! π

4. In "Fireworks" by Ateez, I always hear something different from what is in the lyrics. I'm mean, sure, could be a typo, but still. The lyrics reads "μ¬κΈ΄ μ§κΈ ν°μ Έλ²λ¦΄ κ² κ°μ λΆλμ΄μΌ" but I hear "μ¬κΈ΄ μ§κΈλΆν° λ²λ¦΄ λκ°μ λΆλμ΄μΌ" π₯
This question got me curious because I never listened to this song BUT I wondered if it could maybe be a typo! I will link the song below for those who need a recommendation~
Regarding your question, the singer is infact saying "μ¬κΈ΄ μ§κΈ ν°μ Έλ²λ¦΄ κ² κ°μ λΆλμ΄μΌ" but I can see how it would be hard for a beginner or medium learner to hear the words. It is kind of a rap so don't be too hard on yourself for not hearing it! β€οΈ As you get better at the language and more fluent, you'll probably be able to differentiate the words in a sentence better! π You were really close and I can see how you heard it like that but I hope I was able to help you get peace of mind that it is not a typo tho~!!!
I'll end it with this song! What do you guys think it sounds like??? Make sure to leave your questions below and have a great week everyone β€οΈ
