Guess what time it is~ Weekly newsletter time!!! ๐
This week I decided to take one of your suggestions and write about something that is ~extremely~ important to our daily lives...Money! ๐ถ ๐ฐ ๐ธ
๐ค I know that some of you were curious about the physical bills and coins and the people/objects on them so today we're going to learn a bit of history hehe!
The people on the bills and the images that are portrayed on Korean money seems to be really fascinating for some of you so Iโll do my best to explain what they are to you!!! Letโs get right into talking about the mulaaahhh~ ๊ณ ๊ณ !!! ๐
The front of the 50,000 won bill features the artist, Shin Saimdang (์ ์ฌ์๋น) an artist, writer, calligraphist, and a poet. She was the mother of Yi I, who was a well known Confucian scholar (who is actually on the 5,000won bill!!) Shin Saimdang was from Gangneung and lived during the Joseon period!
The back of the bill features Wolmedo (์๋งค๋) which is an iconic painting from the Joseon Dynasty!
The front of the 10,000 won bill features the legendary Sejong the Great (์ธ์ข ๋์). If youโve been studying Korean for a while then you would know that he created Hangeul!!! Without him our app would not exist hehe...
The back of the bill features what is called the Honcheonsigye (ํผ์ฒ์๊ณ). This is an astronomical clock which was made in 1669 and is currently located in Korea University as a national treasure!
The front of this bill features Yulgok Yi I (์จ๊ณก์ด์ด) who was a legendary confucian scholar. He lived back in the 1500s and was a writer and politician. He is best known under the name Yulgok as it was his pen name!
The back of the 5,000 won bill has another famous painting which is called Chochungdo (์ด์ถฉ๋). Remember Yi Iโs mother ?! She painted this as well!!!
Last and, kind of least, is the 1,000 bill. This bill features Toegye Yi Hwang (ํด๊ณ์ดํฉ) who was also a confucian scholar from the Joseon Dynasty! Surprise, surprise.. He was a poet and a calligraphist too!
The back of this bill is another famous painting from this period called Gyesangjeonggeodo (๊ณ์์ ๊ฑฐ๋). It depicts a present day town called Andong (์๋) which is famous for its braised chicken dishโ์ฐ๋ญ!
Pretty simple right?! Lots of paintings and art behind our nations money hehe~
