1. Leaving the fan on while you sleep kills you ๐
Okay so this one might be a little weird for most of you to hear about but, yes, it is a popular superstition that leaving the fan on overnight will suffocate you to death. ๐ฎ While people are aware nowadays that this is just a superstition, they actually believed this before! Some people say that this was just a rumor created in the 70s to prevent citizens from using too much electricity. โก๏ธ
2. Whistling at night attracts ghosts ๐ป
This one is definitely one I was told as a kid and seriously abided by..haha. So whistling at night was said to attract spirits or ghosts but also! There are versions of this superstition that say whistling at night also attracts snakes! ๐ I was told both so you best bet you'd never catch me whistling at night! ๐
3. Gifting your significant other shoes will make them run away ๐
That's right! ๐ It is a popular superstition that if you get your boyfriend or girlfriend shoes, that they will wear them and run away from you (meaning that the relationship will end). ๐โโ๏ธ As silly as it sounds, when receiving a gift of shoes from a significant other, people will pay a small amount to the gift-giver to cancel out the jinx. ๐ด *I've done this before haha
4. Writing your name/someone else's name in red kills you/them ๐
If you weren't reading carefully up until now, now is the time to pay attention. ๐ This is by far the superstition that is the most relevant today! ๐ While people don't really believe that you're going to drop dead if you do it, in Korea we tend not to write our names or others names with the color red because it can be considered rude or just a bad omen. โ Make sure to never write names in red when you're in Korea!!! โ
