Hey Everyone!!! ✌🏼💚
Hope you’re enjoying all that Teuida has to offer & learning lots of Korean🇰🇷
This week, we received a DM from a user who asked us to share what music we’re all listening to here at the office!!!🧐 I realized that a lot of you are probably interested in K-pop and are curious about the lyrics! Honestly, lyrics are a great way to learn a language so let me show you how to use some common words and phrases through K-pop 🎧 🎶
Without further ado…here is the Teuida Office Playlist for this week 💘
Since our Teuida Team has such good music taste 😉 I decided to pick a few songs from this playlist to teach you guys some Korean words and phrases! ❤️
1. Hype Boy- New Jeans
This was my personal addition to the playlist cuz I’m in love with this song! We’re going to be looking at the chorus to learn a new Korean phrase:
[Chorus]
'Cause I know what you like boy
You're my chemical hype boy
내 지난날들은 눈 뜨면 잊는 꿈 (Nae jinan naldeureun, nun tteumyeon ijneun kkum)
Hype boy 너만 원해 (Hype boy, neoman wonhae)
❤️ 너만 원해 (neoman wonhae)
너 (neo) is the informal way of saying you in Korean, 만 (man) means only so when we put them together it means “only you”
원해 (wonhae) comes from the verb 원하다 (won hada) which means to want
This phrase means “I only want you“ and you can use it to tell your crush that you only want them! Of course the beginning of the phrase can be switched out to something else too! For example, if you wanted to say “I want a burger” you can say “버거를 원해요!” (beogeu reul wonhae yo).
2. New Thing - Homies & ZICO
If you’re on Tiktok you’ve probably seen this song on your fyp like a hundred times but it's really popular because of street man fighter! Let’s take a look at the title to learn a new slang!
✌🏼새삥 (sae bbing)
This slang basically means something new! To be more specific, something that hasn’t been unwrapped yet.
Let me give you an example of how you can use this in real life
Friend: Is that outfit a hand-me-down? It looks super out of fashion…
You: What are you saying…this is 새삥 dude!
3. BOP BOP! - VIVIZ
This song is actually such a bop.. Hehe! Viviz were originally three members of the group GFriend but now they’re back and better than ever! Let’s take a look at their lyrics:
내 옆에 네가 다가올 때, 빨라지는 groove (Nae yeope nega dagaol ttae ppallajineun groove)
눈앞마저 핑 돌고 짙어져 가는 mood (nunammajeo ping dolgo jiteojyeo ganeun mood)
더, 더 높이 올려 텐션, 놀자 이 밤이 새도록 (Deo deo nopi ollyeo tensyeon, nolja i bami saedorok)
💋 밤이 새도록 (bami saedorok)
밤 (bam) means night, this phrase, 밤이 새도록 (bami saedorok) basically means “all night long!” For beginners just try to learn the word 밤 (bam) for night!
For example, if you wanna say “let’s play all night long” you can say 밤이 새도록 놀자! (bami sae dorok nolja!)
4. Yet To Come - BTS
Last but not least, in honor of BTS’s last concert for a couple of years, we gotta use this song! Let’s take a look at a sentence from the lyrics:
Uh, 자 이제 시작이야, the best yet to come (Uh, ja ije sijagiya, the best yet to come)
💜 이제 시작이야 (ije sijakiya)
이제 (i je) means now, and 시작 (sijak) means start or begin!
This phrase as a whole means “It begins now” or “Now is the start”
While some people might be tempted to only use this in a literal way for example: to tell their friend that the movie is starting now– it is also used as a saying to be like “We’re just getting started!” For example, if you’re with a friend at a party and they want to leave early you can tell them “Where are you going! 이제 시작이야!!”
How are you enjoying Teuida!?
