Happy September!!! (It's my favorite month of the year finally~) And that's not just because it's my birthday month I swear haha :D The seasons are changing and the air is getting cooler and I'm so happy to be here with all of you !!!
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! โบ๏ธ
What's trending in Korea
this week?! ๐ฐ๐ท
What's trending this week in Korea?!! It's something I never expected yet can't believe I lived without! It's called "์ ๊พธ" (shin-ggu) !!! โค๏ธ
Let's break it down!
๐์ ๊พธ๐
์ - shortened form of ์ ๋ฐ (shin-bal) which means shoe!
๊พธ - shortened form of ๊พธ๋ฏธ๊ธฐ (ggu-mi-gi) which means to decorate!
If you guessed decorating your shoes, you're right!!!! LOL Koreans are into decorating their shoes with charms + ribbons these days! I've seen a few people do this on Tiktok but it's turned into a full on trend here! So much so that stores are selling charms and ribbons specifically for shoes!!
Would you try doing this?!! โค๏ธ๐ (I've already bought my new charms so I can do it! Aren't they so cute!!!?!!
๐ Check out this video to see someone teaching people how to DIY ์ ๊พธ! ๐
Korean Idiom of the week! โค๏ธ
You all always enjoyed when I did newsletters on Korean idioms so I figured it would be great to add this as a segment <3
์ ์ด ์ฌ์ฌํ๋ค (ib-e shim-shim ha-da)
์ : mouth
์ฌ์ฌํ๋ค: bored
The literal translation of this idiom is "My mouth is bored" BUT the meaning is actually that you feel a bit peckish or you want a bit of a snack. We wouldn't say this if you were hungry! Rather, we say this when you just want to chew on something whether it's a bag of chips or a piece of candy! ๐ฌ
Example sentence: ์ ์ด ์ฌ์ฌํด์ ๊ณผ์ ์ฌ์ฌ๊ฒ!
"ib-e shim-shim-hae-seo gwa-ja sa-ol-gae"
(I'm feeling peckish so I'll go buy some snacks!)
If you use this I swear people are going to think you're a native speaker! โค๏ธ
I watched this show this past week and I got SO ADDICTED that I stayed up until 5 am one day to finish it... It's so good! ๐ฎ
It's a reality show about couples who plan to get married and they all compete against each other in order to win 200,000$!!!!
I'd recommend this because it's really fun but also I think it's a great show to learn some Korean phrases that people use on the daily! If you watch it, let me know what you think!
