❤️ Hello Everyone !!!! ❤️
Welcome back to our weekly newsletter! Hope you're all doing amazing and ready to learn something new :)
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! ☺️
What's happening in Korea this week?! 🇰🇷
This week in Korea, we had two public holidays which are called 공휴일! There was one on Tuesday (the 1st) which was the Armed Forces day! On this day, we have an event to celebrate our armed forces and they even had a show with flying jets and everything!
On Thursday, it was National Foundation Day! These days are called "Red Day" - Red Day in Korea basically means that it's a public holiday (which shows up red on the calendar) which means you get a holiday!
We have another holiday coming up this week on Wednesday which hits pretty close to home (for Teuida) because it's Hangeul Day!
Next year, because all of the holidays are so close together, if people take 2 days off, they would have a whole two week vacation!!!!! ❤️
(I'm looking forward to it hehe)
Check out the Armed Forces Day celebration video below!
Korean Slang of the Week 😎
꼰대
(ggon-dae)
This slang is SO commonly used that it's almost just a regular term now! It's not a very happy/nice term because this word is the equivilent of the English term "Boomer"
꼰대 basically means someone who is old and who is pretty close-minded and expects things to be how they were when (said person) was younger. And they are NEVER too scared to be vocal about it.
For example, if someone who is in a higher position at work says something like "Back in my day... we weren't allowed to use our phones and hang out during work... We actually worked hard" THIS is the definition of a 꼰대 hahahah
"What are some of the biggest cultural differences between Koreans and westerners especially when it comes to dating?"
❤️
Hi friend:)
Great question! So I don't have THAT much experience dating different types of people so please take my opinion with a grain of salt
(this is just my experience and what I've heard from friends)!
One of the biggest differences that I'd say between Korean/Western dating is how often you're expected to text/call your significant other throughout the day in Korea! It's kind of a basic to update them throughout the day! From what I've seen it's not really like that for Western dating! Other than that I'd say maybe the fact that a lot of Korean people still live with their parents in their 20s so bringing your significant other over is kind of still a "no-no" in Korea! But things might be changing and of course, each relationship/person is different so we can't generalize!
Hello!!! I love doing the lyric translations but I understand that not everyone is intersted in K-pop SO I try to switch around the topics as much as possible! But I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying it~ I will try to do more of them!!! Leave me some songs that you want translations for below!!! I'll try to get to all of the requests ~
