Hi friend!! Great question!!! 

Both of these are both sentence endings and often, they add a formal tone to something. For example if I want to say my name is Lisa I would say:

"제 이름은 리사이예요!"

If you want to be more formal though, you would say "제 이름은 리사 입니다!" 

As for 습니다, it's the same concept just a different ending. For example, saying "I got it" you would say "알겠어요!"

But if you want it to be more formal it would be "알겠습니다!"
