Can you guys believe that it's already almost MARCH????!! Time is going by so fast this year but I hope you're all keeping up with your language learning goals hehe
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! โบ๏ธ
What's trending in Korea this week?! ๐ฐ๐ท
I feel like I'm always making you all hungry with the trends but unfortunately SO many of our trends here revolve around food ๐ซ
This week (or these days in general) people have been into something called "๋๊พธ" which stands for:
For those of you who haven't heard of the word "๊พธ๋ฏธ๊ธฐ" it basically means to decorate something. There are tons of forms of ___ + ๊พธ
For example, ๋ค๊พธ which is ๋ค์ด์ด๋ฆฌ (diary) ๊พธ๋ฏธ๊ธฐ or even ์ ๋ฐ (shoe) ๊พธ๋ฏธ๊ธฐ. Which we talked about over the summer!!!
At the moment, people are super into decorating DONUTS. It's kind of like a birthday cake replacement and a fun activity ๐ฉโ๐ณโค๏ธ
What do you think, would you do it?!
Check out a youtube shorts about it here ^ !!!!!
Korean Lyric of the Week ๐ฐ๐ท
Aespa - Whiplash
์ธ๋ฉดํด๋ ์์ฉ์์ง don't you blow it? Just close your eyes, breathe in and visualize
"์์ฉ์์ง"
(seo-yong-eob-ji)
Is it just me or is AESPA POPPING OFFFF these days. I'm super into their music these days and I thought I could teach a good phrase from one of their lyrics!!!!
์์ฉ์๋ค
์์ฉ: use, useful
์พ๋ค: don't have
This phrase means "useless" to be simple but it can also be unprofitable or fruitless. There are other ways to say useless but this one is a little more advanced!!!!
Chris: ๋ด์ผ ์ํ์ธ๋ฐ ๊ณต๋ถํ์ง?
(nae-il shi-heom-indae gong-bu-het-ji)
Our test is tomorrow, you studied right?
Marie: ์ง๊ธ ๊ณต๋ถํด๋ ์์ฉ์์ด...
(ji-geum gong-bu hae-do seo-yong-eob-sseo)
Even if I study now, it's useless....
How would you use this slang in everyday life?!! ๐คฉ
I know that the general idea that Korea is conservative/traditional is well understood which is why you asked this question! While things are getting better these days -- especially in the summer you'll see more people (especially gen z) wearing tanks and short dresses and stuff, there is still a bit of judgment that comes with it!
In my personal experience, it's less so from people my age and more from older people in the trains/buses or on the street. At the most, it's just a weird look though so if you can handle that PLEASE just wear whatever you want!!! (I sure do!!!)
I'm a huge advocate for ignoring the haters + just doing what you want BUT if you want to be more careful, I'd just carry around a cardigan or something to put over your shoulders when you feel judged or over your legs while sitting!
