Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! ☺️
What's trending in Korea this week?! 🇰🇷
Y'all this week we're going to talk about a trending PHRASE in Korea. It's been a while for maybe a month right now but I've been hearing it so often and I thought you guys would find it funny too 🤣
The phrase is:
SEXY FOOD 🍓
Okay, hold on before you guys judge me and all of Korea for this IT'S APPARENTLY a trend among younger gen-z and gen alpha to call a food "SEXY FOOD" 🤣 when they taste something good??????
I'm approaching my mid-twenties, so whenever I see new trends like this, I usually just say, "Oh," but lowkey, this one is funny and I might start using it! For reference in Korean it's spelt "섹시 푸드" but most people say it in English!
So if you want to be trendy among the gen z gen alpha crowd in Korea -- next time you try a food that's super good say "wow SEXY FOOD" 😋
WATCH IT BEING USED IN REAL TIME ^^^^
Korean Slang of the Week 🇰🇷
This slang has been so entrenched into Korean culture that I'm pretty sure it's not even a slang anymore it's just a word but:
"국룰"
(guk-rul)
Let's break it down!!!!
국: stands for 국민 (guk-min) which means the people who compose a nation (like citizens)
룰: this is just the English word "rule" said in a Korean way 😎
This slang means "citizen's rule" literally BUT it is actually used to describe "things that are so obviously right and universal that EVERYONE agrees" (kind of like a norm) 😊
Basically, if something is 국룰 it's something that is agreed upon by everyone - not super literally or seriously but kind of like a joke!
For example: people think its 국룰 that you have to eat pork belly (samgyupsal) with soju ! 😋 OR if you pick up food you dropped within 3 seconds you can still eat it! (3 second rule)
Surprisingly I eat at the convenience store pretty often so I have my go to meal SET which is:
1. Shin Ramyun Cup (신라면 컵라면) 🥘
2. Jammy Eggs (감동란) 🥚
3. Tuna Mayo Triangle Kimbap (참치마요 삼각김밥) 🐟
If you guys are traveling here any time soon PLS try my combo (it's perfect imo)
P.S. not sure if anyone will read this but please let me know if any of you are from indonesia and have recommendations for places to go (Jakarta, Lombok, Bali) !!! I'm visiting in a week and would looove some LOCAL recommendations hehehe <3
