revealing the secrets of Korean texting slang ๐คซ
โค๏ธ Hello Everyone !!!! โค๏ธ
How are all of you doing!!? Can you believe it's almost June already...? I don't know if it's just me but 2025 has been going by waaaay too fast...
(If you're reading this tell me your favorite K-pop group in the form at the end ๐)
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! โบ๏ธ
What's the trending meme in Korea this week?! ๐ฐ๐ท
OK I know we already talked about Earth Arcade's new season a couple of weeks ago BUT watching it reminded me of a hilarious meme that I wanted to share with you all! โค๏ธ
The meme is "์ ๋จ์น ํ ์คํธ" and it originated in 2019! For those of you who are up to date with our slang - can you guess what this means???
If you guessed ex-boyfriend toast, dingdingding - ์ ๋จ์น (ex boyfriend) ํ ์คํธ (toast) ๐
It all started when this girl broke up with her boyfriend in 2018 but couldn't stop thinking about a toast that he made for her at his house...
She was craving it so bad that she actually decided to contact her ex boyfriend and ask for the recipe - she told this story on her blog (linked below) and even shared the recipe LOL
This was the text conversation with her ex (which I did my best to translate hahahah
And FINALLY after all that thought, she ended up getting the recipe! ๐๐๐๐
This was such a legendary meme back in the day that that recipe still lives on and it's called "Ex-boyfriend toast"
Fast forward to 2025, Lee Youngji was given the toast on a quiz and she was asked to name it - her reaction made the meme start trending again and here we are now LOL
Check out the video below (p.s. I've made it and it's actually good)
Korean Slang of the Week ๐ฐ๐ท
์ผ์
(jem-ye)
Y'all already know that we LOVE to shorten every single word possible... can you guess what this one means?? ๐คฉ
Let's break it down:
์ผ: stands for ์ฌ๋ฏธ์๋ which means "something fun"
์: stands for ์ ๊ธฐ which means story or discussion
This slang literally means "fun story" but if we're looking for an English equivilent I would say it's the closest to how we use "tea" as in spill the tea ๐ต
Here is an example of someone using it in context:
A: ์ผ! ๋ ์ผ์ ํด์ค๊น??? (hey, should i tell you a fun story?!)
B: ์!! ๋ญ๋ฐ ๋ญ๋ฐ~ (yes!! what is it what is it~~)
