Korean girls ALWAYS use this slang in the group chat ๐ฅต๐
โค๏ธ Hello Everyone !!!! โค๏ธ
Hope you're all having a GREAT summer so farrrr!!! It's getting so hot in Korea and the monsoon season is starting (i hate going outside now) BUT we've had some super pretty skies as a result hehe
ALSO, I haven't gotten many questions + responses from you guys recently so don't forget to leave your feedback below (i love hearing from you ๐)
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! โบ๏ธ
What's trending in Korea this week?! ๐ฐ๐ท
I'm not sure if this is trending BIG time just yet, but I've seen it getting more and more popular everyday ๐
This weeks trend is... Coffee Rave??? โ
Now, I know what you're thinking -- how do those two words even go together??? TRUST ME it's a lot cooler than you think. Basically, people get together at a cafe at like 7am (before work) and dance and party with a DJ while drinking COFFEE ๐ต
I honestly think this is so cool and I've actually been invited to one next week so I'll keep y'all updated on how it is!! โค๏ธ
In general though, 'healthy lifestyle' is trending in Korea (and around the world) which is why people have been super into Run Clubs and protein filled foods... and now.. Coffee Raves!!!
Korean Slang of the Week ๐
โ๊พธ์๊พธ"
(kku-an-kku)
This one is SO commonly used I wouldn't even consider it a slang anymore LOL
Let's break it down:
๊พธ: put together/stylish
์: not
๊พธ: put together/stylish
The whole slang is a shortened version of
"๊พธ๋ฏผ ๋ฏ ์ ๊พธ๋ฏผ ๋ฏ" which literally means "stylish/put together but not" - it translates kind of weird but the meaning is looking effortlessly cool - it looks like you tried, but not really ๐คฉ
For example, you do your makeup and hair BUT you wear like sweats and and oversized tshirt ๐
If you're still confused lemme explain a little more ๐
When Korean girls get together for a hang out we usually text in the group chat "how much are we trying" and there are different levels (some people do it by numbers but for the sake of this slang let's use the slang words) ๐
1. ์๊พธ ๐ถ๏ธ
we're not trying, just showing up in sweats no one cares and we will NOT be taking pictures
2. ๊พธ์๊พธ ๐
we ARE trying this time, but we have to look like we didn't try
half-half and we might take pictures but they won't be for the feed - just for the story
3. ๊พธ๊พธ๊พธ ๐
we're gna need atleast 2 hours to get ready
FULL makeup, FULL outfit, hair DONE & get ready to take pictures bestie!
Don't forget to practice your pronunciation of these terms on our app!!
HELLOOOO~ This is such a good question because I know Zodiacs are gaining popularity AGAIN around the world but unfortunately, what you've heard is true...
Korean people don't really follow the western Zodiacs (but I think for the most part they would know what their own is - just not others/the meanings) ๐
BUT we follow the Chinese Zodiac calendar where each year has an animal! In Korea this is called ๋ ! so you would ask someone what their ๋ is and they would respond with an animal! ๐ถ
For example, I was born in 2001 which is the year of the snake! ๐ Sooo.. I would say
"๋ ๋ฑ๋ ์ผ" (I'm Snake-๋ !) These reset every 12 years so to be the same "zodiac" you would have to either be born in the same year or in 12 year increments up/down! โค๏ธ
