Don't take this Korean slang literally... please ๐ถ
โค๏ธ Hello Everyone !!!! โค๏ธ
Welcome back to our weekly newsletter!! Hope you're all doing well & make sure you're sending in your AMA questions/topic suggestions if you have any <3
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! โบ๏ธ
What's the trend in Korea this week?! ๐ฐ๐ท
Okay this is less of a weekly trend and more of a recent trend (I'm also super super obsessed with it so I'm a little biased)
BUTTTT, have you all ever heard about KANY??? Some background is -- she is a dancer (shes danced for Beyonce & even worked with Michael Jackson) BUT now she choreograph's Kpop!!
She actually started becoming a lot more popular (in the eyes of the masses) because she came out on a reality show called "I live alone" as one of Shinee Key's BEST FRIENDSSSS
She recently started her own youtube channel and I have been oBSESSED with it!!! (as are a lot of people in Korea)
I think her youtube channel is hilarious and maybe some of you can relate to her trying to learn Korean & trying to mix English and Korean so I thought it would be a great recommendation to you all!
Let me know if you do watch it!!!! <3
Korean Slang of the Week ๐ถ
โ๊ฐ์๋ฆฌ"
(gae-so-ree)
this one is DEFINITELY not even a slang at this point and just a word (but you'll sound super native if you say it)๐ถ
Let's break down the word:
๊ฐ: dog
์๋ฆฌ: noise/sound
I'm like 99% sure that the literal translation gives you all NO indication of what the slang actually means... while the literal translation is "dog noise" this term actually means nonsense or a statement that is just utterly wrong lol
I wouldn't use this term/slang in formal contexts but only with close friends!! USE IT WISELY because it can be considered a little rude (more offensive than saying nonsense)
This is a great question! And I can understand why you're worried especially because of dramas playing up this level of conservatism!
Don't get me wrong, people in Korea are quite conservative (mostly older people) when it comes to showing skin and in general, people just don't really tend to do it! BUTTT I'm hear to say (as someone who goes to the gym everyday) that wearing leggings is completely fine in a working out context!
Some people might look at you weird if you're wearing like super duper tight clothes on the subway but that's cuz they're weird and if you can handle it, i say WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!!! BUTTT my personal tip is: bring a cardigan and if you're ever feeling weird about the stares, just put it on/over your legs/tie it around your waist!
BUT, great question and don't worry too much about it!!!
