How is everyones week going so far??! I'm having such a busy week and I'm so tired... so today we're going to learn some important words of encouragement!!! After the weekly news ofc~
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! βΊοΈ
What's the news in Korea this week?! π°π·
There is a VERY important holiday coming up in a couple of weeks and while I'd usually wait to tell y'all, I thought I would give you an early reminder if you want to celebrate it as well β€οΈ
SOOO on Oct 6th, it's Chuseok!
For those of you who don't know Chuseok is a harvest festival (mid autumn) but it's actually kind of when it starts getting cold in Korea! π You can kind of think of it like Korean thanksgiving! π
This is an especially looked forward to(?) holiday because people get to see their family but ALSO.. there is a break from work!
This year, its from monday until wednesday so including the weekend -- its the PERFECT time to go on a trip! If you're not in Korea but you want to celebrate, try making some Jeon (savory pancake) or finding Korean rice cakes at your nearest Korean market! π₯π
(I'm also not in Korea at the moment so you KNOW im goin to hmart that day hehe)
Korean Encouragement
of the Week π€
βνλ΄"!
(him-nae)
NEW SEGMENT YAYAYA
Let's break it down:
ν: power
λ΄: short for λ΄λ€ which means to "put out" or "to give"
I feel like this is an obvious one (BUT STILL SO IMPORTANT) ALSO the direct translation doesn't really make sense... give power??? νλ΄ actually means "cheer up" or "you got this" or "hang in there" - it is basically a phrase used to give power to whoever you say it to!
You would usually use it when someone is having a hard time or you can tell that they are struggling (or they just tell you)!
Next time one of your friends is struggling, tell them νλ΄! or if they're older than you νλ΄μ! β€οΈ
Believe it or not... Christmas in Korea isn't even a family holiday LOL it's lowkey for couples and if you're single -- friends! It's not really like Lunar New Year or Chuseok where you spend time with family!
All that to say, lots of people will be out and about and you won't be the only one spending it without your family so νλ΄! <3
Anyways... I have 2 recommendations for what to do on Christmas:
1. Shinsegae Department Store - Myeongdong
Shinsaegae in Myeongdong has suuuch a pretty building and they have a light show on it every christmas! I'm not going to lie, I've only ever seen pictures and videos (I'm more of a stay home and order delivery kinda person on Christmas) BUT it looks really fun!!! (almost enough for me to change my mind abt just ordering food!)
2. Gather up some friends/or a friend and go to a nice Dinner
As I always say.. Korea is the place for FOOD and tons of restaurants and hotels have special menus for christmas! I think some of them are really good and the promotions are usually great!
Hope that helped <3 Hope you enjoy the winter wonderland this year :)
