It's been a long longgggg time and just want to wish everyone a welcome back and a happy Seollal!!! (Lunar New Year) :) We're back with the weekly newsletter
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! โบ๏ธ
P.S. Please give me feedback and send me any questions you have!!!!
We know the #1 rule of Korea is that almost every trend revolves around food so let me tell you what the most popular food right now is!!!
It's called "๋ด๋ ๋น๋น๋ฐฅ" and it became popular because of Korean celebrity Kang Ho Dong (who is really famous for being on reality shows like 2 days 1 night and knowing bros) !!! ๐
It's a Bibimbap that's made from Korean spring cabbage (๋ด๋) which is like super cheap to buy in Korea! So this meal is being praised for being a cheap, easy, and healthy meal!!!
I'll link the recipe below + a video of him freaking out about it so y'all can try~~~ โค๏ธ
(I can confirm that it actually tastes so so so good)
Korean Slang of the Week ๐ถ
โ์ผ๋ฐ์ผ / ์ฌ๋ฐ์ฌ"
(cae-ba-cae / sa-ba-sa)
This one is so silly but I figured that it would be helpful for you all to learn because I've started hearing it even on dramas/movies!
Let's break it down:
์ผ - short for ์ผ์ด์ค (which is case)
๋ฐ - short for ๋ฐ์ด (by)
์ผ - short for ์ผ์ด์ค (which is case)
It's funny because not a single part of this is actually Korean but everyone says this in Korea!!! ์ผ๋ฐ์ผ is the slang way of saying "case by case" as in (it depends on the case)! ์ฌ๋ฐ์ฌ is literally the same thing but ์ฌ stands for ์ฌ๋ (saram) which is person!! As in, it is person by person/it depends on the person!
You'll see these used a lot when friends or even coworkers are talking!!! Would you use it?? ๐
This is a great question and I just want to clear up that what you see on dramas/tv isn't always very accurate!!! Just like disney channel shows are kind of inaccurate for what kids really do after school, dramas aren't always the best representation.
Realistically, most kids who are in middle/high school will have after school activities which might consist of extra classes or learning a foreign language or preparing for a test! But kids do definitely go to PC rooms or Coin Karaoke sometimes - just not all the time! Also, PC rooms and Karaoke and other activities are relatively cheap in Korea! The PC room I go to is around 2,000won for an hour which is like less than 2 dollars!
