As I said last week, this weekโs newsletter is going to be a special AMA or ask me anything! I figured since so many of you had questions and sent them through the forms, I could address as many as I can this week! Hope you enjoy it and hope all your questions are well answered hehe! Letโs get right into it ๐

1. Can you tell us more about the Korean military service? ๐ช
Okay so where can I start! There were actually a few people who asked about the mandatory military service & Iโm guessing this is because of your favorite idols/actors all going to the military! ๐ญ Anyways, for those of you who donโt know, Korea has a mandatory military service for all able-bodied males! ๐ At the moment, the service lasts for 18 months and the first five weeks are the most intense since itโs the initial training.
All of my friends have to go to the military & from what Iโve heard from them, the training is really toughโespecially the gas chamber training. ๐โโ๏ธ However, according to them, their happiness comes from receiving letters from their friends and family! After the initial 5 weeks of training, the soldiers will be placed in different areas around Korea and will be able to come out a few times during the year and a half for โvacation days!โ This is usually when they can meet their family, friends, and significant others! โค๏ธ

2. What are some of your favorite things to eat at a Korean convenience store? ๐
In the past year, Korean convenience stores have been going SUPER viral on Tiktok and I think itโs honestly so funny because I never would have thought they would!
Either way, Iโve been hearing there is a ton of fascination with the drinks in little packets (will attach a picture below). BUT I gotta break it to you guys, they are mainly for convenience and do have a lot of options but not always the best tasting. I would recommend it though for people who want to try new things on a budget & feel the Korean vibe! But donโt assume these are the only options hehe ๐คฉ
For my personal recommendations: I really love this chocolate milk called ์ด์ฝ์๋ชฝ (cho-co-eh-mong) ๐ซ and I would recommend it to all chocolate milk lovers out there! My favorite combination to get at a convenience store would be ์ผ๊ฐ๊น๋ฐฅ (triangle kimbap) and ์ก๊ฐ์ฅ ๋ผ๋ฉด (yuk-ge-jang ra-myun).๐ This is such a good combo because the noodles & soup & kimbap just taste SO good together.
Make sure to try this out if you come to Korea hehe โค๏ธ

3. What exactly is the Namsan Tower? Why is it always in K-Dramas? ๐ผ
The Namsan Tower, also known as Seoul Tower, is located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul!
Iโm sure most of you have already seen it all over movies, dramas, and music videos but Iโll attach an image below anyways~ The tower is located on the Nam Mountain (Namsan) and it is technically a communication and observation tower! Culturally, it has a romantic vibe to it so unless youโre a tourist or something, you usually go with your significant other or someone you like! โค๏ธ It was initially made famous as it was the highest point in Seoul and if you go to the top, you can see so much from there! There is a cable car to get up to the mountain or you can even take a bus up as well! ๐
The part that is most often shown in dramas and movies is the padlock part! There is a whole section dedicated to locks and you usually buy a lock there, write you and your partner's name on it, and attach it to the gate to represent your love! ๐
It is a pretty romantic activity which is probably why itโs always in the dramas lol! Last time I went there I saw someone looking for their lock to take it off.. Hahaโฆ messy breakup I guessโฆ So let this be your lesson. Make sure if youโre going there, to take someone you really love! (unless you want that lock up there forever hehe) ๐

4. What is the most fascinating place in Korea? ๐น
This is definitely an opinion question and Iโm going to answer this completely honestly guys. So we all know there are so many beautiful scenic spots and great historical areas right? They tell you all about those in the travel books, Iโm sure! So Iโm going to be really honest and tell you what I believe is the most fascinating thing about Korea and the thing that I miss most when Iโm not there. Here it goesโฆ itโs called a ํฌ์ฐจ (Pocha) ๐คฉ
Those of you who know may know but pocha is a tent bar! Iโm sure you guys have seen them in dramas where people will go into orange tents and have a drink and some food! This is honestly one of my favorite things about Korea since I never get this vibe at a bar or restaurant overseas. I love having a drink and having some delicious eats on the side of the road, ESPECIALLY on a cold day or when I just stumble upon one and decide to go in! It is the best thing for spontaneous people and the food is usually so bomb! ๐ฅ๐พ

5. Can you teach us a Korean idiom? ๐
Let me teach you this idiom that means โyou have high standards." The idiom is: ๋์ด ๋๋ค (nun-ee nop-da) which literally means โeyes are highโ ๐๏ธ but actually is a phrase used to describe a person with high standards! This is one that basically everyone uses so I promise if you use this one, youโll sound like a true native speaker hehe ๐คฉ
