bring THIS up when talking with a native Korean speaker 💝
❤️ Hello Everyone !!!! ❤️
Are you having a good weeekkk?!!!? I am having a super good one because the weather is finally (ACTUALLY) warm... I think I get really affected by the weather - how about you!? anyways...
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! ☺️
P.S. a reminder to ask me questions at the end of this newsletter 😥 I haven't gotten as many responses from y'all recently... are you theree....?!!!
(Thank you to those of you who left questions last week I'm less lonely now ❤️)
What's the trend in Korea this week?! 🇰🇷
You will never guess what is trending in Korea right now...
ITALIAN BRAINROT...😆
Please tell me you guys know what I'm talking about or maybe I'm the chronically online one.. there is this really famous meme that's been going around of Italian brainrot animals??? 🦈
and they all have names too.... like trallalero tralala..? but can you believe that people in Korea are obsessed with this meme ?? It's literally the last thing I'd expect to pop off here but people are even using it as 건배사 (geon-bae-sa) which is what you say before you cheers (while drinking) almost like a toast but less serious LOL 🍹
I have no idea where this meme came from but please tell me where if you know... it's so weird I'm scared lol 😃
Since we always do Kpop, let's do a ballad song from a lesser known (but still popular in Korea) artist Choi Yuree!! (shes one of my favs) ❤️
Let's break it down:
모른: don't know
척: act, pretend
지나가: to pass
겠지: ending which means "i guess"
This one is definitely a harder one so lets separate the two parts:
모른 척 (pretend like you don't know)
and 지나가겠지: we would probably pass by
This is a song about an ex so it's saying "We would probably just pass by and pretend not to know each other" or more naturally, "We'd probably just ignore each other"
The reason I wanted to teach you this lyric is because of the phrase 모른 척: while this one means to pretend not to know you can add 척 to anything and it would mean pretend.
For example: 예쁜 (pretty) 척 (pretend) - pretending to be pretty
OR
친한 (to be close) 척 (pretend) - pretending to be close to someone
