Welcome back! I missed you guys hope you missed me! Let's learn some Korean and keep our language learning brains active :D without further adooo....
P.S. I want to revamp some of our topics and do some new things with this newsletter! If y'all have any ideas for what you want to learn, please fill out the form at the end of this email <3 <3 I will love you forever
Let's get right into this week's issue of Teugether! βΊοΈ
What's trending in Korea this week?! π°π·
ok FAR be it from me to promote another app (we all know teuida is the only app y'all need... right?!!!)
BUT this Korean app has really been trending these among the MZ generation these days and I gotta give y'all the inside scoop...
The app is called "찰리μ κ±·κΈ°!" can you guys guess what this means ??! well 찰리 is just the name charlie μ means with and κ±·κΈ° means walking SOOO the app is called "walk with charlie" (although I think the app is called "walking charlie" in the US app store) π
The app tracks your step and the more you walk the healthier your character (charlie) gets! You can literally see him growing muscle which is actually very motivating imo LOL also, you can get points and buy clothes (the app even collabed with KBO and has their jerseys!) βΎ
anyways, let me know if y'all try it -- but every time you use it you have to promise to open Teuida too~ β€οΈ
Korean Slang of the Week πΆ
βμ΅ν "
eok-ten
This slang is so commonly used that I think it might come up in basic conversations (it's one of the classic shortening words and turning it into another word sooo)
Let's break it down π:
μ΅: short for μ΅μ§λ‘ which means forced
ν : short for ν μ which is "tension"
Ok there are a few layers to this because I'm sure y'all are like tension...? BASICALLY the english word "tension" acutally means energy or excitement (weird I know but stay with me)
If someone says ν μ μ΄ λλ€ (tension is high) they mean that the energy is high (basically that it's hype/lit)
μ΅ν means "forced tension" but it's a short version of the sentence μ΅μ§λ‘ ν μ μ λμΈλ€ which means "forcefully bringing the energy up"
Let me try to use it in a scenario! π―
For example, you're in class and your teacher is trying to get the class excited about something (something that clearly no one is interested in) the fakeness that people put in going "whooo!" and pretending like they're interested/having fun is μ΅ν !
I hope that makes sense but PLEASE let me know if you guys want more of an explanation I know this is.a hard one !!! π
I love this question because I'm a K-media maniac and I love recommending things to people! β€οΈ
What I am currently watching that I'm really enjoying is actually the Channel Fullmoon series with JYP! If you haven't heard of Channel FullMoon - it is Na YeongSeok PD's youtube channel and he does a lot of really fun content!
This one specifically is he brings all the idol groups/artists of a company together and they play a ton of games! There are also some foriegn members in all the companies so seeing the Korean games from their perspective is also super funny!
I really really recommend it for anyone who is looking for some funny and light K-media to learn Korean from hehehe π
